i fluked this bottle at a lesser known auction. i know its only the 2nd vintage and i dont think it was commercially released. it was mid shoulder . im almost tempted to sum up the experience right now as saying this wine could have been a fake. Ok, so i know it wasnt but it was out of this world. I drank it with my brother in law who had previously blinded a 74 Dry Red no 2 on me which was also ethereal. i immediately rang another mate who loved old YY and told him to get his bottom around to my place immediately for a drink. When i told him it was 74 YY Dry red 1, a 5 minute drive took him 27 seconds. it was dense deep crimson, almost as if there was purple tinges in it still. choc full of density and flavour and rich sweet fruit. god only knows what it must have drunk like in late 70"s. i cannot recall a 74 Cabernet anywhere in the world that is as fantastic as this, although i have not had 74 Mossy or some 74 Napa's which are supposed to be classy too. anyway a fantastic experience and unlikely to be repeated as i'm sure there must only be a handful left. up there with the immortal 85 and 90. What a wine.
