This has improved over the past few years and in a nice spot right now. Paired nicely with ground lamb and mixed salad. Drink 2024-2028. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.

Opended and decanted 1.5 hours ahead of homemade burgers and fixings. Dark, purple-crimson color. The nose brings cherry blossoms, blackcurrant, creme de cassis, blueberry compote, pipe tobacco, and herbs. The palate is full, square, compact, and juicy, bringing a strong blackberry/blueberry core with dark cherries, milk chocolate, espresso bean, soy sauce, and lingering raspberries/cranberries into the tannic finish. Well constructed but in an awkward phase right now, even after 3-4 hours of air. Drink 2022-2028. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

Anton’s Wine Tasting Notes Winery: Saddleback. Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon Area/Appellation: Oakville, Napa Valley, California Vintage: 2012 Price: $58/ Closeout Bottle Kansas Market Color: Opaque, dark purple almost black from the top Legs: medium to fast Nose: blackberry, black currants, vanilla, oak, Palate: blackberry and black currants up front loaded with a hint of ash, earth and black tea. Finish: lots of earth, tea, Oakville oak and dried cassis on the back end. Comments: 1.5 hour glass decant. Classic Oakville style. Bottle was in fairly decent shape, however the cork was dried and broke so I put the prongs to work and got the rest out. (Closeout buyer beware.) Met Nils back in 2016 and he is a down to earth grape farmer and winemaker. He sticks to his guns as they say and none of this fancy ass over extraction winemaking BS in order to kiss J.S.’s, Bob’s, Marvin’s or James’ a$$! 2016-2017 are probably in stores now. Give them a good 5-7 year lay down in the cellar and will really go 15-20 years if you are patient. Pairing Suggestions: Gourmet Hamburgers, Steak, Pork Tenderloin, Score in terms of Vintage: 93 Score for the Wine: 92 Value for the Money: Recommended 😃 Date Tasted: 04/17/2021 Tasted by: ACK

Lucious Napa Valley Cab - Dark, ruby red color that clings on the glass with a classic Oakville aroma and taste of dark cherries and berries. I always enjoy Saddleback.

My thinking has evolved, and perhaps the wine has as well since Oct 18. Same flavor profile, but I like it more. Better QPR
