Was brought to our CWG by Sophie (Sergey’s GF). The wine is solid yellow and clear, full body, intriguing nose with Apricot, lychee, and honey. It was sweeter than my preference but really interesting.

Zind Humbrecht is rightly famous as one of the greatest winemakers in Alsace. And this is his Gewurztraminer from the Clos Saint Urbain Vineyard in the most famous appellations in Aslace, Rangen de Thann, in the southernmost part of Alsace, which historically is the place that made Alsace wines famous going back into Medieval times. Among Zin Humbrecht bottlings, this sports the tallest, heaviest, and most deeply punted bottle. And yes, the wine inside stands out for having enough acidity to remain refreshing, a luscious texture, richly spicy aromas, an endless mouth coating finish, the ability to get even better with 10 to 20 years of aging, and is divinely good with spicy foods from Asia, including India, Thailand, and Indonesia.

PHMG WAG: Alsace (Chateau Lyon): Even stronger on the nose than the Clos Windsbuhl in this tasting, like someone just dumped a cornucopia of relevant fruit on your face. Similarly viscous on the palate but less sweet and more muscle. "Sublime", said one taster; "glorious", said I. Next in 2022.
