  • Popped and poured. This is impressive. Attractive floral, herbal nose. Although the wine clocks in at 15.1 percent you feel none of it. In fact the fruit is remarkably fresh, the wine is medium bodied, pure, transparent and lifted. Black raspberry, smoked meats, herbs and spice come through. Excellent concentration and length. This will be fascinating to see develop.

  • Wow, just a fantastic wine. Had next to the 2019 Heart Stone. This was a clear winner due to softer tannins...just a super smooth wine that was enjoyable throughout. Opened in the bottle 4 hours ahead. Wish I had more.

  • Decanted two hours before service. In the glass, clear, saturated crimson at the rim, shading quickly to dark impenetrable maroon at the core. On the nose, a reticent mix of crushed raspberries, blueberries, and petrol. On the palate, fruit-forward on the attack, with dark berries leading the way, but the tannins and oak slowly but surely assert themselves over the mid-palate and into the finish, where they reach almost bruising levels of concentration. Assuming it's like all other Saxum bottlings, this is where it will live for at least the next 5-10 years, and quite probably longer. I'm bumping the end date of my personal window to 2033.

  • Agree with recent tasting notes. Better first night than second. Drink soon.

  • Popped and poured. Stunning nose of raspberry, pepper and iron wafts from the glass. The wine is very pure, no trace of oak, reasonably light on its feet, black raspberry and spices. Very persistent, doesn’t show heat despite 15.1 abv. Fairly open knit as with the vintage but good acidity keeps it in balance.
