Pop n poured. Lot of funky Cayuse smell. Needed air. Well balanced. Funkiness little overpowering but in a good, interesting way. Recommend decant for few hours

Another '13 from Cayuse--100% Syrah from En Chamberlin.
I found this pretty similar to the '13 Armada I tried several months earlier. The reason I've scored it lower than the Armada is that I found this overall a little less dynamic. The savory qualities of the wine were similar to the Armada--smoke, campfire, herbs, pine, and sweet dark fruit. Like the Armada, the typical trajectory (fruity to savory) was inverted (savory to fruity). The palate was similar, though with a medicinal note that lasted a little longer than the Armada.
Unlike the SQN Stein Grenache I had at the same time, the En Chamberlin proved interesting on the fourth day.

Drinking beautifully right now, definitely needs air and decant if you can. Almost inky black, very smooth, full bodied, well integrated and long aftertaste. On the nose initially as expected the very strong Cayuse funk and once that blew off dark plum, anise and a hint of soy sauce. On the palate dominant dark fruit up front with minimal oak and subsequent development of the expected olive tapenade, black pepper, anise, smoke, grilled meat and a definite hint of green pepper on the very end that I usually associate with cab franc but is present quite often in the Cayuse wines. Brought to our wine club Christmas party by a good friend and Cayuse aficionado. At least a decade to go and will further integrate. Drink or hold - if drunk now would recommend a good 2 hour decant. These wines can be a bit divisive and controversial - the style, funk and fruit are so big that you either really like or don't like these wines, hard to stay neutral on these. Highly recommend with the caviat that these wines are not for everyone.

Great acid, balance, wildly rich flavor. Outrageously long finish. Olives and fruits and leather and tobacco. Delicious.
