I bought half a dozen bottles some years ago, this was my 3rd one: Big, powerful wine. Deep red color, purple edges. First impression of overripeness in the nose, but bouquet developed will after half an hour, leaving a fruity nose of deep ripeness, dark berries, dark cherries. Wonderful round and silky texture, full bodied, well balanced. Medium to long finish, dominated by a velvet silkiness. For people who love muscular, big wines, like me.

100% Syrah from the Max vineyard. Fermented in stainless steel; 2/3 with commercial yeasts, 1/3 with natural yeasts. The wines were macerated with the skins from 3-5 weeks, depending on the batch, and aged for 18 months in new French oak.
Very dark, almost fully opaque black cherry color with a hint of youthful purple. Very opulent and somewhat pungent nose with intense aromas of stewed plums, blackcurrant jam, some floral violet tones, a little bit of mocha, hints of dusty wood and a touch of boozy alcohol. The wine is full-bodied, jammy and unctuous on the palate with very sweet-toned flavors of milk chocolate, toasty oak spice, blackcurrant jam, blackberry marmalade, some blueberry liqueur, a little bit of espresso and a hint of peppery spice. The wine comes across as very soft and flabby due to the inadequate, low acidity, but fortunately the moderately grippy tannins lend some sense of structure to the wine. The finish is long, rather hot and quite sweet with bold, jammy flavors of milk chocolate, sweet toasty oak spice, blackberry jam, some extracted woody bitterness, a little bit of overripe plums and a hint of espresso.
Ugh. A heavily overdone, overripe and over-oaked Shiraz (definitely not Syrah) with no semblance of balance whatsoever. The wine is just jammy, covered in an chocolatey sheen of oak and too hot with excessive alcohol. A rather repugnant effort. Keep your distance.
