  • Black Lion Wine Club - Central Italy Whites and Tuscan Reds (The Black Lion): Medium garnet. Dried fruit - cherry, plum, prune, liquorice, smoke, leather, earth. Fully developed. Dry, high acidity, fine med+ tannins, med+ alcohol, tertiary flavours dominate the palate, long finish. Outstanding, mature Brunello. Still very good indeed, great finesse, but time to drink up.

  • Coravin sample
    Medium garnet, tending towards brown.
Medium (+) aromas - cherry, plum, prune, liqourice, leather, earth, smoke, clove. Fully developed.
Dry, high acidity, grippy medium (+) tannins, medium (+) alcohol, medium (+) body, medium (+) flavours similar to the nose - tertiary notes dominate. Medium (+) finish.
Very good quality, but slightly disappointing compared to previous tasting. I wonder if the Coravin sample has an impact? In all events, I’d suggest drinking sooner rather than later.

  • The wine is clear, medium garnet in colour.
The nose is clean, with pronounced intensity aromas of red fruits (cherry, plum, strawberry), floral (violet), spice (liquorice), oak (smoke, clove), tertiary bottle age (leather, earth, dried fruit). It is developing.
The palate is dry with high acidity, medium (+) silky tannins, medium (+) alcohol, medium body, pronounced intensity flavours of cherry, dried fruit, leather, cloves, earth. It has a long finish.
Quality Assessment: Outstanding. The wine is complex with multiple flavour clusters - both primary and tertiary, and pronounced intensity. The acid and alcohol are in balance with the fruit, and the alcohol and tannins are well intergated. The length is long.
The wine can be drunk now, but is suitable for further raging for up to 5 years. It already has tertiary flavours and has the structure (acid, tannins) and the concentration of fruit to develop further. It definitely develops after opening - it is worth decanting in advance.

  • Pop and pour from half bottle. Simple red fruit elements dominant on nose and palate with sweet aftertaste. Gaining some body and non-fruit elements after 1-2 hours upon finishing the bottle. Overall a pleasant enough bottle at very good price.
