Still has life left. Better than I remember the last bottle a few years ago. A light cab, fruity with cherry & strawberry and a hint of pepper. 2011 vintage and I drank 11/2020

I have fell in love with Burgess since I landed a case of the 2004 vintage napa cab, I drank it all within 2 months of time(@2017), the 04 vintage was lovely. Plums, small black fruit tasting notes, a nice semi fruity taste to its finishing, almost like a black currant drop to the back bone. The 2011 vintage however sank below my expectations. The nose is very similar to the 04, nice black fruits and sweet aroma. Medium body. There are tons of pencils and leads on the tasting note, the finishing was much bitter than its suppose to in comparison to 2004 and 2008. There are a handful of complex minerals on the taste, but not a pleasant finishing and lack of depth or satisfaction, shows a very strong dull nutty flavor at the end. We decanted it for 2hrs, shows no improvements, will have to experiment the rest of case and age it for another year to see if any improvements (although I can sense that this vintage is lack of backbone and it might not hold up for that long). Really was hoping to get that lovely black fruit tasting note and semi sweet finishing like the 04, but the 11 is certainly a disappointment. (To my surprise, I also realized that it is no longer using a wooden cork). Tannis did took in the 3rd hour, it have gotten a bit better on opening up with the fruit notes but the rise of the alcohol taste also kicked in(not the best combo with the mineral +nutty flavor). No pairings during the tasting but suggest a nice New York Strip steak if there was an option to choose from. Overall, decent Napa bottle, better than good but not great.

Grapey, lacking structure...sadly, past its prime. Usually these last 12+ years.

Wonderful. Maybe not the best vintage but a well rounded Napa cab!
