Excellent fill on the bottle and cork in great shape. Good color without much browning. Lots of sediment. A Napa Cabernet that is on the downside but still very good. I'm sure it was a 93-95 at its peak.

Opened a 5 liter bottle on Sunday, donation which amounted to $460.00. $10.00 for 3 ounces. Shared and drank the rest. In addition, a portion of the afternoon’s proceeds will go directly to Alzheimer’s Orange County. Bottle hard to open, cork came apart, filter and decanted. Not much fruit to start, aroma or pallet. Plenty of acid, now the waiting game. 1 hour later starting to open up, with lots of mixed berry's, no mid pallet or much of a finish. 1/2 hour more, BINGO !!! Perfection . Much better then the 750 I opened in march . Classic old school Cab, Beautiful nose , Could smell it being poured, gorgeous mid pallet and long finish. Love Large formats.

What a surprise !!! 1980 a poor year for wine. I had quite a few cabs from the 1980 vintage.Mondavi, BV, Diamond creek, Mayacamas, Heitz. This one was the best of the bunch. The wine looks brick colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, forest floor . It tastes like blackberry, cherry, dust, forest floor, medicinal, black pepper and eucalyptus. The body is medium. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. BLOWN AWAY !!!!!!

I wanted to try this (I had a load of Cabs handy) because Cellaraiders has it for $25. Lots of herb on the nose, currants, then on the palate a little thin. Not bad, and a decent deal at $25, but now that I’ve had it don’t need another. B/B-

Aged Cabernet Sauvignon (Walnut Creek, Ca.): 7 Cabernets and Rack of Lamb. Showed a ripe briary cardboard nose and taste with rapidly fading fruit, no saving features, tasted 3 times with virtually the same results recently. My #6.
