First impression mint and dried herbs on nose and palate, along with structured tannins and vibrant acidity. Black fruit (cassis, blackberry) and a moderate length of finish/

This "blend" from the Coonawarra region of South Australia consists of 52% merlot, 46% cabernet sauvignon, and 2% petit verdot. As a long-time fan of Aussie reds, I was really looking forward to it...and was terribly disappointed by it.
The wine had slight tinges of brown at the edges but had been stored under cellar conditions and did not appear "defective" in any way.
This medium-bodied red is appealing on the nose. However, on the palate it is quite harsh and austere with neither the smoothness nor mixed berry flavors I had anticipated. There is some complexity and the finish is decent, but that doesn't begin to make up for the negatives on the palate.

Merlot dominate blend, but very close to 50 / 50, 52% Merlot. Now that is a pronounced perfume in a good way. Minty fresh on the nose. The tannins and the acidity are quite lively, I am being told Coonawarra should not be a polished wine, it should show these things.

Mint, red currant, blackberry, sweet black tea, wet earth. Shaped by silty tannins and lively acidity.
