Decanted for 2 hours. Medium to dark ruby. Confected sweet red fruit and a bit of green leaf on the nose at first but with time more dominant scents of iron-inflected mulberry and raspberry emerged along with forest floor and violets. Streamlined, elegant, and lithe on the palate with layers of red raspberry, mulberry, and black cherry laced with iron and a bit of char at the end. Freshening acidity and moderated tannin, leading to a longer finish of rocky red fruit, iron particles, and brambles. Young wine with great balance but room to develop further.

Popped and poured. Lovely initially, sweet dak cherry, rich, long. That opulent grand cru sweetness and length I love. A touch of that Chambertin gurranimal, roasted meats, primary and rustic background in a balanced long package. Drinking well, but could use time. Lovely.

Camille Giroud Cellar Visit and Tasting (Beaune): Popped and poured at Giroud. Mature black and red cherry with hints of sauvage and spice. Moderate weight, while nicely persistent. Similar to a bottle opened at home a few weeks ago, perhaps slightly fresher with fewer green hints.

(Giroud Camille Chambertin) Deep, initially dominated by oaky notes though they quickly fade leaving a very tight aromatic profile - needs time in the glass. In the mouth it is dense, silky and with plenty of well covered structure. Sneakily long with an edge of barrel flavour. A wine that begs a few years in bottle, but seems to have good potential. The funny thing is that the majority of Giroud 04’s that I’ve tasted don’t have much 04 taint - the ladybirds were there, I photo’d them, maybe it’s not them - but who’s complaining this wine’s lovely.

Massive, Rich, Deep & Reticent. Dense and some what monolithic. I'd say D/H but no hurry.
