A knockout tonight, at once gamy, spicy, iron-scented. Notes of sottobusco, raisin, incense, iron shavings, and graphite, and a musk that conjures the embrace of a woman who has just come in from an autumn run. It still has pretty furry tannins, and is youthful. I will be drinking my remaining 2 bottles in 3-5 years with a rack of lamb. A gorgeous and rather modern (this does not mean oaky) interpretation of Sagrantino.

Still quite tannic, but delicious and drinking well now. Smoky nose leads to a fairly full bodied palette of dark fruits and dried figs. Lots of structure and complexity. Classic Sagrantino.

Vini Rossi-L'Ultimo Piano (Asti Trattoria): This wine might need some time, seemed more new world in style and had noticeable oak. It had a ruby/purple color and a faded ruby rim, gripping tannins and good acidity, was dense and tasted young, did not have much flavor yet, though dark fruit and mint were noted. Needs food and probably more time. Had a bitter finish, with a slight green character.

Very nice wine, blackish fruit, lots of lush tannin, black spices, balsam Moderate finish. High acid. Curous to see how this extractice, glyycerin filled fruit bomb wil age
