PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs -translucent med gold -some oxidative/nutty notes -med+ acidity, moderate oxidation, reasonable depth, a bit of roundness from residual oak -while not completely oxidized beyond all repair, the oxidative notes dominate to the point of it being flawed. Did not exceed the low expectations I had for this bargain-priced bottle obtained on secondary market.

I've opened a few bottles of Guy Amiot's wines during the past week or so, and felt I should try another 1995 Puligny-Montrachet Les Desmoiselles. Curious as to how this wine would perform, since the last 2 bottles had shown considerable difference in colour. This time the wine was showing a bit more colour than the previous bottle - medium straw; strong and deeply penetrating aromas - tropical fruit, mostly pineapple, and even a honeyed spray, with a slight spicy note; full bodied and showing very good acidity; a mineral touch, which I don't recall finding last time, with a slightly tart pineapple flavour, and a bit of orange peel; some oak, but not offensive in the least; very long finish which seemed to go for well over a minute. Some similarities with the last bottle opened, but I believe I found some other things this time. Fine bottle !

Compared this wine with the 1996 vintage of the same wine. Had some concerns about atasting of this 1995 Puligny-Montrachet Les Desmoiselles last week, where the colour suggested either premature ageing or oxidation. It turned out not to be oxidised, and on this evening I was expecting the deep golden colour I had experienced this past week. The colour was much lighter - a straw shade, with some green hints; just a shade darker than the '96 on side by side comparison; the aromas showed more tropical fruit - pineapple comes through, along with some pomegranate, and also showing some spicy oak; more fruity than the '96, but still possessing fine acidity; another full bodied wine, but it seems, if anything, more harmonised than the '96; flavours are pronounced, with the pineapple coming through and less citrus than the '96; round and rich; long on the finish, where the oak seems dwarfed by the tropical fruit, although it is still present; really excellent. I still have some of these in the cellar, and it is a relief to find the wine more closely allied to my earlier expectations for a Burgundy of this age.
Cork on this wine - again in remarkable condition - tight and clean, with the fill level almost up to the bottom of the cork. Cork was branded as a 1995.Both of the '95's came from the same case - stored in my cellar at 56F since arrival. Still confused about the colour of the wine tasted last week, but this bottle clearly in fine condition - great colour, flavours and finish.

Chose a 1995 Puligny-Montrachet Les Desmoiselles from Guy Amiot to accompany a grilled Halibut fillet. Deep golden colour ( my initial concern was that the wine had been oxidised, but that wasn't the case); on first opening the oak dominated the aromas, but after sitting in the glass for between 30 and 40 minutes it began to show much more; full lemony and some fresh flower aromas punctuated with hints of pineapple, clove and new oak; very full bodied; flavours focus more on tart citrus, some honeyed edge, and a mix of the pineapple and oak; very pronounced acidity, but it harmonised with the fish course; long, finish of pineapple fruit, acidity and just a trace of oak. Very enjoyable !
This is a wine that I tasted from barrel in Guy Amiot's cellars in May, 1996,, and my notes at that time were: 'Bright green/gold in colour; deep, exotic aromas of tropical fruit and toast; long luscious fruit; clean and marked acidity; honey toned ripe fruit; extremely long finish; the acidity and fruit levels should make this wine a long keeper.'
