Impeccable cork on pulling – poured off ~100ml and left the bottle to breathe for ~4 hours. Initial taste was ‘musty’. After 4 hours the wine had opened up nicely and the mustiness blew off. Rich/sweet fruits, coffee/mocha, tobacco, dried fruits (raisins?) and a touch of spice. Lovely mouthfeel/ethereal. The tannins are fully resolved with a soft long finish. Probably past its prime, but drinking surprisingly very well. The bottle throws a significant crust.

Dark garnet, brick rim. Nose of torrefaction, dried fruit, licorice. Rich and sweet on the palate, lots of alcohol but no heat. Freshness OK, on this rich side. Nice and tame tannins, good finish. This has held up really nice after almost 20 years.

given my last bottle of this wine I was very pleasantly surprised with this wine. Plenty of fruit on the nose and front palate. Reasonable follow thru and finish given its age. Definitely past its prime, but an enjoyable drink none the less.

NobleRottersSydney - Taylors wines with Mitchell Taylor (Lucio's, Paddington): {cork, 14.9%} The 1998 wine has developing aromas, with a big, soft, almost seductive nose of upholstered ripe red fruit with touches of coconut, smoke and tobacco. The tannins and acids have softened out on the palate, and this is now a big cuddly luscious wine, warm with vanillan oak infusions, fuzzy grape tannins, and a warmth and richness that belie its Clare heritage. Not exactly cerebral, it must be said, but a satisfyingly rich warm mouthful of wine at its peak now.
