Virtual Tasting with Friends #2 (Zoom): Deep garnet with fading edges. Pronounced nose, with overripe plums, even dried and candied like prunes, with cinnamon spices. Medium acid at best, with resolved tannins, but high alcohol and intense flavours, with sweetish dried prunes, as well as cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Towards the back, some coffee rub and cocoa, and slight savoury meatiness. Finished quite shortly though

A dark full bodied wine. Plums, blueberries, herbs and vanilla from American oak. A well balanced palate with good tannin and acidity. A long lingering finish. Needs a decade. Decant at least 2 hours before consumption.

Lots of vanilla oak on the nose. Underneath that are sweet blueberries and black plums with minty chocolate and black pepper. While it is a popular nose, I find it too heavy on the oak, if the wine is not allowed to breathe for a while. Best, leave it in the decanter for 2 hrs to release the complex nose. Palate is equally filled with sweet and toasty vanilla oak, black plums and preserved olives. Very mineral and rich mid-palate, spicy with some saltiness of the bacon fat and smoked meat. Little acidity to provide the structure. Finish is deep, smoky and lingering. Again too much oak which covered the other flavours in the palate. Without that much oak, it could be a good example of a cool climate Shiraz.

Dark fruits, plums, raisions, vanilla, spice, aniseed. Pretty heavy on the oak. Good length on the finish. Oak very dominant.
