MNB: Thin-skinned, old-world reds (Home (Noe st)): (blind) Medium minus ruby to a garnet rim. Weird nose of dried earth, overripe peach, Philippine mango, dried man, rotten watermelon rind (better than it sounds), dried mushrooms, and slight brett (wet dog).
On the palate, dry, slightly confected raisinated cherry, slightly bruised strawberry, Medium plus body, high alcohol - feels 14% (actually 14.1%), medium acid, medium plus tannins - ripe, grippy, chewy. No oak that I can perceive.
Medium finish - all red strawberry and cherry. Medium acid, high alcohol, and raisination leads me to a GSM blend.
Final call: 2014 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape Actual: 2012 Sangiovese, California - Amador County
A ringer! Vanessa got lots of Sangiovese signals, but I eliminated it based on structure.
In terms of quality, it's a bit ripe and acid-deficient for me, but there's good integration on the palate, and the tannins are nicely textured. The slight brett is unusual in the New World, but overall a good effort.
