  • Decanted 1.5 hrs ahead. Garnet color. Nose has plums, cherries, cedar, iron filings. It's pleasant, and even better 2 hrs. after decanting. Relatively soft & smooth on the palate, in a style that says "Italy" to me. Acidity is good and not overly assertive, but it's there. Medium/light bodied. It's 15% alc but really does not show it. In the finish, yeast and iron filings lead the way to very light tannins. This is not a wine of tremendous aspirations; it wants food. With a pasta dish that has a light tomato sauce, it shines. To assign this wine a number is a bit of a crime, but I am going to use the CellarTracker scale like I always do, and I am calling it Very Good. This wine really defines "food-friendly." It holds up the role of food-accompaniment with wonderful dignity, even nobility. I can totally see using this wine at a long table filled with animated diners. It will be eagerly enjoyed.

  • Wine was ok, nothing that WOW'd me. Not sure Sangio is my style. Would probably be better with pasta. Drank the wine by itself.

  • Not a bad wine, but not particularly memorable either. On the nose, a mixture of red fruits - raspberry mostly, with maybe a little strawberry and a hint of tart cherry juice - and an Old World mixture of coffee, chocolate, and just a bit of gasoline. On the palate, it starts off quickly with a bright burst of raspberries and red grapes, but quickly dissolves into a typical spicy Sangio mid-palate, with chocolate, cigar, and brick notes poking their way in. The finish is very tart and tannic, and leaves a long, dark taste in the mouth. There's also an odd slickness to the wine on the tongue as well; it just sort of fills the mouth in an odd way, different from a regular Sangio. Altogether not bad, but would be much better as part of a blend - on its own, this estate wine is just a little one-dimensional.

  • We began this bottle with Bread and Olive Oil appetizers; it matched up very well. There was an earthy smokiness to the wine. The second half of the bottle was consumed without food. It did not fare as well. It was still tasty but little green. Perhaps it would soften with another year in the bottle. Still, we enjoyed it.
