Tasted with 2001 Marquis Phillips Integrity and 2010 Sine Qua Non Five Shooter. This was by far the most massive and concentrated, with loads of concentrated fruit, also loads of tannin but they didn't get in the way. Dark purple garnet, huge cassis and blackberry nose. Powerful, dense flavors coating the palate. Should be outstanding but definitely needs another five years. Ric

Opened in the bottle for 2 hours and decanted for 3 more. Currently very primary with most of the fruit/character buried beneath a massive wall of tannin/structure. Some hints of greatness do manage to emerge with very precise black fruits, violets and graphite. Definitely all up front with the middle and finish being hallow. Nonetheless the bones are here for something legendary but will require more patience than I have. Hold 10 more years.

100 Point (Parker or other) Wine Dinner Organized by Steve for 6 "Wine Guys" (The Prime Rib, Philadelphia): I know at least one other attendee felt otherwise, but this seems like infanticide to me. This is an extremely powerful wine that will need at least a decade to fully evolve. It was double decanted 2 hours before dinner. The color is a deep grapey, purple garnet. High tannin, medium acidity and 14.7% ABV (not as high as I might have guessed given the vintage). The alcohol was noticeable on the nose initially but seemed to blow off after a few minutes in the glass. Other elements in the nose were graphite, vanilla and violets. On the palate, once you got past the tannin, there was black plum, blackberry, black raspberry and some wet stones. I thought the nose was better than the palate. The finish was a bit short and a little flat. I think this will be better down the road, though great with a fatty steak to balance out the tannins.

Decanted for 2h and enjoyed at a 100 point dinner at the Prime Rib in Philly. Pure red fruit, mineral, and granite on the nose and palate. A massive young CA wine that was great with steak.

Agree with others that more age is required for this to have a chance at magic. Right now, a very good wine that doesn't yet reward its price tag.
