  • This wine is an utter revelation. I had no idea a Barbera D’Alba could age and blossom like this.

Dark fruits, herbs, and root beer greet the nose, but the wine continues to morph and change over time. The fresh complexity of the nose doesn’t prepare one for the magnificence of the palate.

Seamless in its presentation, like a red carpet rolls out and is strewn with the freshest rose petals for the vibrant flavors to slowly unfurl. There are juicy black currants, tart boysenberries, fresh tarragon- but more like tarragon infused water, a hint of tea, spicy chevril, and a little touch of citrus rind. This wine is fresh and vibrant with mouthwatering acidity and the finest of velvety tannins.

I feel like I’ve missed the boat on buying these throughout the years. I wish I had a cellar full of back vintages.

  • Excellent barbera. At its peak. Wish I had more.

  • Delicious as usual, but I think it is nearing the end of its life. Still great tarry fruity nose, but the palate, as pleasing as the dark fruit is, has a slight off note of extra acid that it didn't have before. Thus not at balanced as before.

  • A few blind wines (my place): nose: very aromatic and filling nose of meaty tones, roasted herbs, dark red cherries, leather, and dark berry tones. excellent depth and classy

taste: medium/full body with medium+ acidity and sneaky tannins. Well balanced with a real classy feel and tones of leather, dark red cherries, bits of red florals, dark red berries

overall: I didn't expect this to be a barbera. Not too surprising when it was a giacosa as this wine was filled with class and elegance
