A very recognizable style. We hadn’t yet tried the Ambonnay 2008, and had the opportunity to do so. The pinot noir felt very dominant in this bottle, with cranberries, raspberries, and blackberries, all a little balsamic, but also with a strong presence of exotic/yellow ripe fruits with pears, guava, dragonfruit, lychee, and coconut; we always find a herbal and almost medicinal side in Beaufort’s wines: gummy bear candies, fresh ginger, cough syrup, rosemary, salt, some green tea, and yeast; as always, there was some density and sweetness with honey, along with yogurt, and some raw walnuts.
Unsurprisingly for the vintage, the acidity was a lot higher than others we’ve tried, which cut through the potential heaviness of Beaufort’s wines on some occasions; it actually had a light feeling on the palate, quite effervescent, and very juicy from all of the vivid fruit, perhaps a little vinous as well. We enjoyed this bottle, despite not being our favorite of all of his millésimes. It’s enjoyable from today but it has to age some years to be on its rocking moment.

  • Possible this was off. Apple cider mother, VA, and some really strange bruised up Iron Mike Tyson apple skins. Not this bottle for the winner.

  • Lovely champagne with plenty of character from a great maker. Natural style, soft mousse, apples, yeast, a slight oxidation, earthy. Well-liked by most although if you like a really clean linear big house style, then perhaps look elsewhere

  • Very nice, good depth, maybe just a tad cider-y suggesting it needs plenty of time but enough positives that I'll happily try this again.

  • A complementary glass from the somm at Rouge Tomate (NYC) to end our meal at the bar. A racy champagne with good cut, lemon zest, tart green apple and fine mousse. Not a heavy oxidative style, but more fresh and clean. Very nice
