This was not as expected. I suspect that it was past it’s peak. I would never have thought that this was a Shiraz. In a blind tasting, it would have fooled me completely. A very medium intensity wine in many ways. Red berry and strawberry on the nose. Red berry and raspberry on the palate. Hints of violet and toffee. No spice, no pepper. Medium acidity. Smooth tannins. Light weight wine. Nice finish. Nothing wrong with this wine. Just not what I expected.
Opaque, deep dark purple. An muted nose on opening, and not much different after 24 hours of air: hints of sweet berries and that's about it. There's much more going on in the mouth: a lovely balanced palate of alcohol, acidity and some fine tannins leads to a long buzzy finish. Those sweet berry flavours - brambles maybe - are followed by a touch of Northern-Rhone style violets and minerality. But just a touch. Not enough! I usually enjoy S+S enormously but this is a long way off great. Can it be too old? It shouldn't be. But then it shouldn't be so underwhelming in its aromas and flavours... Screwcap 14%.

Generously fruited with plenty of plummy aromas and flavours. There's some coal smoke and a hint of liniment. Nice balance between sweet and savoury.

Drinking well still some time to go, very smooth, not big on the nose but full of flavour
