  • Ruby-garnet, opaque. Pronounced sweet vanilla-caramel nose with black cherries, black raspberries, plums, sweet herbs. On the palate medium body, soft and round flavors of red and dark fruits, nice acidity, soft tannins, excellent balance. The flavors carry through to a long finish. This is an excellent St. Emilion style blend, soft, round, complex and elegant. Mature, probably best to drink next couple of years. Just a shade less impressive than the bottle five months ago but better than the 2012 opened the night before.

  • Opened in the bottle a few hours. For my taste this is ready to go and at or close to peak. The JVPHOTO note rings true to me. Certainly a distinct Cayuse thing going on here with jalapeño and iron/blood up front. More typical Bordeaux elements do come into play midway with milk chocolate, raspberry, sweet cassis and plum. Aged brown coloration but surprisingly medium (almost full) bodied. Blind I’d likely guess a there’s Syrah in here. Picked up in the Ex Cellar release.

  • Decanted for one hour. Great combination of fruit and dirt on the nose and pallet. Strong finish. Many years of life left on this bottle.

  • Some reduction at first and benefited from a decant. Even after about 2 hours there was still a significant amount of green peppers/jalapeno but by then it was able to make way for mocha, raspberry, welding iron & a bit of blood.
I'll give the other bottle another 10 years.
