  • From 375. Orange-copper colored, quite deep; medium aromatics with orange marmalade, spice, slight caramel; palate is rich, full bodied, unctuous sweetness, medium acidity, medium-plus alcohol, orange marmalade fruit; finish is a bit shorter than I expect based on the density, medium to medium-minus, clean finish. 88-89

  • From 375. Orange-golden; aromatic, dried orange/apricot, citrus; palate is full bodied, richly textured but with medium-high fresh acidity throughout, shows some heat through the midpalate which is more noticeable (as a bit of acetone) because the fruit drops out there; medium length finish. After having a few bottles of the 2011, I think I like that vintage more because it's a bit lighter and more elegant while still retaining that floral/fruit component. 89
Unlike my last bottle, this did not improve with a few days of air. Shows more alcohol now.

  • From a 375.

Color: 2009 is a bit darker than the 2011, but not by much, both golden-orange in color.

Nose: Both aromatic, the 2009 has moldy orange marmalade, citrus, a hint of acetone, while the 2011 has lifted floral aromatics, fresher, vibrant on the nose, orange blossom, going back to the 2009 still has complexity as does the 2011 but in different ways.

Palate: 2009 is full bodied, rich, high alcohol with some heat, orange fruit but not as much in the forefront as I would have expected given the age. 2011 is full bodied, fresher throughout, higher acidity but still medium and not high, lighter orange blossom fruit throughout, still has high alcohol with slight acetone.

Finish: Both the 2009 and 2011 have medium length finishes, with the 2009 being a bit richer and denser than the 2011.

Both are interesting wines, similar in as many ways as they are different. '09 is richer, '11 is fresher, both are high alcohol, both have shades of orange, balanced but not over the top acidity, balanced finishes, neither at the limits of complexity of a great sauternes but both enjoyable. Both need at least 10 years. '09 91+ pts, '11 90+ pts

Day 2: Hasn’t changed much. The ‘11 improves a bit but the ‘09 hasn’t changed much. Now they are about equivalent, still in different styles. 90-91.
Day 4: Richly textured, even more so now than days ago, hasn't developed as much additional complexity as the '11 with time, but it has still settled in nicely. 91-92
Day 5: This has now really come into its own, no longer showing alcoholic heat, and now showing even more concentrated orange marmalade character. This is more similar to some excellent '94 Acininobili that I had had before. 92-93
