Krug Dinner (Northbrook, IL): Still showing a bit young. Sweet orange and honeyed notes. Marmalade. Firm backbone provides a lot of lift and balance. Nice.

Dinner with the Best of Krug, with Olivier Krug (Northbrook, IL): Powerful start with shocking freshness. Clearly mature but still showing fresh fruit, with apple, lemon custard and some grapefruit peel and hints of red cherry. Moderate effervescence was consistent with the wine's age, but the freshness would have made me think this 10+ years younger if served blind. No signs of oxidation. Very enjoyable, thank you David! This was the last year Krug was bottled in a "regular" Champagne bottle; in '76 they switched to the current more stylish bottle.

Original 1975 1.5L sourced 20 years ago in London and brought over for this dinner. The freshness was simply amazing and while it was a very good Krug, it didn't reach the heights of greatness. Lip smacking acidity, crisp tart apples and pears. Long on the senses. Tons of bubbles..

The 50 Big Bash (Harry's NYC): Would not have guessed the age. Much younger and brighter than I would have expected. Drinking very nicely.

Very nice. Still some freshness. Developed and good with nice butterscotch notes. Not a ton of acidity but enough to get you through.
