Very sanguine, iron, limestone minerality with clove and sage notes; perfumed, super complex, exquisitely balanced, structured, in short, a masterpiece of a Barolo. With Giorgio Pelissero at Monopole

Decanted for three hours in the morning, poured with dinner in the evening. Medium ruby colour. Flowers, roses, red fruit, cherry, blueberry, light herbal notes, lavender, earth, tar, spices, and hints of chocolate and vanilla, with lively acidity, fine, dry tannin, and very good length. Light saline minerality. Well-structured, with good concentration.
Even after three hours of aeration the acidity and tannin still seemed demanding, but by dinner time the wine was beautifully balanced and quite seductive. Equally good with no signs of decline on day three. Drink (after extended aeration) or hold.

Ample, expressive, spicy, masculine and refined on the nose, offering sour cherry, leather, earth, pan d’epices, in superbly integrated oak. Great structure on the palate, denoted by ripe tannins and the right acid tannic relation. Chocolate and herbal reminiscents coat the expansive fruit. This spent 20/22 months in 80% new barriques and 9 months in the bottle. Concentration combined with finesse. One case of non-distracting French oak.
