Decanted one hour before service - while the wine was approachable with this brief decant, 3-5 hours would have been preferable. In the glass, a saturated, opaque, dark indigo-red. On the nose, currants, plums, and faint hints of sage and mint. On the palate, rich with fruit but still showing interesting complexity; dried herbs, sandalwood, and cedar all make appearances, before robust tannins carry the wine through the midpalate and long finish. I think this has a good chance of meaningful improvement, with that density of fruit and those tannins. Give it another five years, at least.

Very aromatic nose showing of mix of blackfruit, earth and light spices. Between medium and full bodied and much more balanced and accessible than I had anticipated. The fruit is a rounded, silky mix of blackfruit, especially black cherry and black raspberry. Adds blueberry towards the back along with nicely integrated spices and tannins. There's enough tannin to support the fruit, but this wine is really all about balance. Unlike many cabs which either rely on either highly structured, drying tannins or high alcohol/massive fruit forward power, this wine provides depth and nuance on a solid frame. The result is wine that shows its fruit beautifully and without relying on overextraction; a refreshing change for a CA cabernet. Has the depth to age, but this is showing extremely well at present.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): Really oh so young and coming on the heels of a wine that has had a few more years to come into itself that is clear. Still, there's a lot to like with the stuffing of this wine. Right off the bat it starts more with the leather notes, then the black fruits. Very crisp. Some spices. Maybe with time a bit more red. Very tasty.
