(Non) Blind 2004 and Older Bordeaux (Meritage): I must admit I was apprehensive about this wine, but man did it deliver. There was more richness than I expected, as if there was a substantial amount of malo. Creamy, rich, good acid, and definitely chardonnay.

What is the measure of a good wine? I would argue it has nothing to do with typicity, although typicity is the only compass given to us when judging wine. Typicity is about how to understand wine, not necessarily how to appreciate it best.
What kind of a dry white wine would you normally serve with some salmon in a lemon chili sauce? Probably not a sous Voile Jura white.
This wine has typicity but it’s not typical. Instead you find a yellow colored Chardonnay dominant blend with savagnin from old vines, with a fino nose shock full of salted almonds, an apple cider vinegar attack on the palate, followed by a creamy, lemony, viscosity and finally a mouthwateringly fresh and tangy finish that gives you that uncompromising Jura feeling, incidentally also the trademark of this very producer.

Very oxidative and sherry-like but also a sharply cut minerality. $60 at Alley Light.
