  • Two hour double decant. Nearly opaque ruby magenta color. Lots of raspberry and cassis on the somewhat diminutive nose. Smooth, dry palate. Softer tannins on the longish finish.

Never had a Greer with some age on it. In some ways it came across as youthful and holding back. Very nice drinker nonetheless. jsmorris707 brought this as a bonus bottle and I cannot thank him enough. Such a fun dinner with Mark1NPT, JS, Carol, and Diane.

  • Brought by Joel to Fleming's tonight with a 2 hour double decant. Dark opaque purple in the glass.

Nose of dark fruit, a bit of black dirt early on and 5 spice. Later, maybe a little iron or oxblood, but it was pretty minimal all night long on the nose as compared to the very deep and effusive '09 Colgin nose.

Palate had some tannic energy with black berry fruit and more 5 spice. Really feels like it needs even more time to fill out? Feels like there should be more there, there.

My only other experience with Greer is a '14 a couple of years ago and it's very eerie how similar both bottles have performed. Really curious to know if these just need another 5 years or more to really strut their stuff.

  • This is a big Napa cab. We know that 2013 was a great year and this small Vineyard, which is geographically next to Scarecrow and Staglin (just down Manly Lane), is very special. It’s essentially a vineyard and a barn. When we ordered our bottles in a visit with some very special friends, we had the most wonderful tasting on the second floor of the barn, overlooking the vineyards, and the proprietor joined us. It was just great. The only issue is that it’s a very small production gig, and I don’t even know if I can get any more of the 2013. In any case, we popped this at 1862 in real time. Kevin, the amazing manager, and Lauren, the amazing sommelier, decanted the bottle, and we let it rest with its thoughts only for about 40 minutes. I think that was probably not enough to be optimal. If we have it another hour or two before we started to drink it, I bet it would’ve added a point or two. To my taste, the 2013 Greer tastes like the 2013 Dominus with just a little more oomph. Slightly heavier mouth feel, a little heavier on the alcohol, with more tanic elements. That said it was totally well-appreciated by the table (even one good friend who says she “isn’t a red wine girl” almost chugged the glass). Really wonderful and a great find. Thanks Kevin, Adam, and Ryan!

  • A Charity event plus two days of birthday celebration; a memorable three day weekend.; 10/13/2023-10/15/2023 (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA): Those who know my palate will be as surprised as me how much I liked this wine. I wanted something bold to pair with two seared dry aged Flannery "Jorge" bone-in rib steaks. I was expecting a fairly "big" wine, though it felt more medium bodied. The balance was really incredible; perfect! Nothing dominated, just luxurious dark red fruit, fine generous tannins, and ideal acidity. I think what struck me was the balance and almost ethereal quality in the face of fairly generous Rutherford fruit. This was no fruit bomb.

  • Popped and poured . The wine is beautifully balanced with dark fruit showing through. Hints of vanilla and leather. Just a joy to drink
