Deeply saturated color and full of life, the ‘94 Diamond Creek RRT is going strong as it nears 30 years of age. Somewhat gritty and lacking focus though so maybe not in the top five of the vintage even in this traditional style. Very good but not memorable.

Firm, classic, cassis filled with a green slant to the herbs, cedar and tobacco leaf nuances. Not quite stoic, but there was an austerity felt here on the mid-palate and finish. I liked the wine, but it was on the rustic side.

Deep, dark reddish-garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & cassis with classic overtones of cedar, tobacco & leather, with lovely secondary nuances of floral notes of violets, earthy/dusty, graphite/iron, minerals, dried herbs, eucalyptus/mint, cocoa, spices, minerals & a touch of oak/vanilla. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruits of dark cherries, blackberries and plums with spices, herbs, cocoa, mint, minerals, toasty oak & a hint of vanilla. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but has the fruit, structure, balance & depth to hold for a few more years although I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Quite lively & vibrant at 25 years of age!

This is drinking great. Tannins have softened, some aged earthy aromas, nicely balanced. 12.5% alcohol. My favorite of the CA cabs tonight.

1994 California Cabernet Blind Tasting (Michelangelo Hotel, New York): Dark Morelo cherry. Quite primary still.
