Casual Burg Dinner with Friends (RPM Italian - Chicago IL): Lots of black fruit, moderate hints of Asian five spice. Still firmly structured, this isn't really harmonious today, and I doubt it will ever resolve into something really better.

Medium/deep garnet core, medium pale garnet rim. Lovely, perfumed nose with lightly spicy plum and black cherry, notes of soil and undergrowth. Medium bodied on the palate, sweet plum and black cherry fruit, notes of soil and undergrowth, fine, integrated tannins, nice fresh acidity carrying a good length, savoury, harmonious finish. Sweet, but savoury, with a hint of decay, but perhaps also flirting with the odd hint of something unclean (rot?) - although this is not enough to substantially detract from the overall effect.

Cote de Nuits Tasting - Dujac -v- Grivot (Mercer Hotel, Dublin): The colour of this wine does not betray its age: it is hardly lighter than the 2001. A good ruby hue with no fade at the rim. The nose is slightly closed down, but when worked gives up some secondary red fruit aromas. The palate is still quite tannic, giving an extremely youthful sensation. Possibly this is the sappy old vines exerting their influence. Oak notes resolved. Long. In my view, very good indeed (plus). However, opinion is divided on this wine: some doubt whether it will improve but others feel it needs another 10 years to show its best.

Simply beautiful mature burg but retains good fruit and balance. A lot better than I was expecting
