  • Aperto due prima del pranzo. All’apertura note fruttate tipo marmellata e frutta scura candita.
Poi sono usciti i sentori terziari come tabacco e note eteree.
In bocca tannino molto presente con buona spalla acida, qualche anno di invecchiamento non gli fa di sicuro male.

  • We had 2 bottles of this wine tonight. Very much in line with my previous note.
When listening to the responses of our friends to this wine I came to realise that there is some kind of universal appeal from a well made wine like this. I particular like the complexity and refinement of this Brunello. Some of my friends like the high extraction/heavy oaked wines that I’m not a fan of. But we all greatly enjoyed this wine, regardless of our general preference.

Nor much of a tasting note but I still thought it was interesting enough to share.

Interesting fact: at the time of writing Querce Bettina still has some bottles available for sale! It’s quite unique to be able to buy a well matured Brunello directly from the producer.

  • I am surprised that I have not left a tasting note here a few years back. I closely follow Querce Bettina because I like the style of this producer.
After this bottle I certainly think that this vintage deserves a bit more attention.

Light ruby/red colour with some very light hints of amber at the rim. Full aromas of cherry, some blackberry and red liquorice and hints of laurel leaf and leather. Medium-full bodied on the palate with smooth tannins and a great acidity balance and some sweetness of fruit. The finish is long with a slight hint of bitter.
This wine has evolved into a nicely mature Brunello. Although not from a top vintage this wine is a great example of the elegant style of Querce Bettina, an excellent wine and its very much ready to drink now. It reminds me of the 2005 of the same producer that also offered a beautiful mature wine already a bit earlier than the greatest vintages.

It might still improve a little but I would not wait too long. Drink now - 2024.

  • Montalcino Trip- Day 3 (Querce Bettina & Canalicchio Franco Pacenti) (Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy): Nose: There is a real freshness to the nose with it favoring the upper register along with strawberries, plums, red cherries, red florals, fresh picked berries, mineral tones, spices, roasted herbs, and bitter chocolate notes. There is great depth and lift to the nose with it being wide open even at this young stage.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ tannins and medium+ acidity. The feel is polished, elegant, and fresh with strawberries, plums, red cherries, fresh picked berries, mineral tones, spices, roasted herbs, and loads of red florals.

Overall: This is an outstanding young Brunello. It is highly aromatic and perfumed with a real purity to the tones and excellent depth. This can certainly develop over the next 8-10 years, it's extremely pretty right now.
