  • A brief update - there is a saying - there is no such thing as a great vintage, there is only the great bottle.

This is certainly true for this bottle. Similar profile to the last one except it is much more balanced, nuanced and has yumminess factor.

    Drink now to 7+ years.

  • Intellectually curious but no hedonistic joy to be had here though.

14 was not a great Barossa vintage and this bottle was an oddity. Took a very long time to open up but it is deep red and very rich. Great depth of flavours of menthol, dark fruit, red plums and currant. Body was intense but very light on its feet with nicely balanced acidity. So technically, it is all very fascinating but it is not an enjoyable wine, at least for me. Unbalanced in terms of flavours and there is a touch of greeness or stalkiness that failed to disappear. It was not a wine that brought joy and fun., perhaps it is the SUV of wine.

Drink in 3 years to 2032+.

  • Extreme concentration, not too jammy.
The alcohol is present, but it’s not overwhelming or too visible.
    Impressive Shiraz!

Left in decanter for 2 hours.
A very powerful and dark bouquet with great depth, offering blackcurrant jam, warm elderberry juice, dark chocolate, “Plums in Madeira”, crushed black pepper, dark-roasted coffee beans, baked black olives, sweet tobacco, fresh leather, cured meat and mild hints of charcoal. Oak and spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and bayleaves, some floral and herbal notes of eucalyptus, menthol, fir needles and “sweet” red flowers, hints of sweet berry yoghurt and an incredible minerality with notes of graphite, gravel, warm clay and rusty metal.
Full-bodied on the palate with great depth, medium acidity and fully integrated powdery tannins. Blackcurrant-blueberry compote, vanilla poached plums, espresso, dark chocolate mousse, menthol, olive oil and some fresher strawberry compote behind it all. The oak is present but not too much, some vanilla, roasted almonds and iron.

  • A deep and ark purple colour. The nose is super-complex, with notes of blackberry, blood plum, menthol and floral spice. It is a dense and creamy wine, with layers of flavour, but light on its feet. Tannins are perfectly ripe and length phenomenal. Great balance and some much more in the tank.

  • Big bold and wonderful. Drinking well with 7 years age. Length is special with lingering tertiary flavours leather etc…. Poured into large glasses, no decanter, developed so much in a short time in the glass. Memorable wine.
