Magnum format. Phenomenal with long life ahead. Initially disjointed but with a 2 hour decant this blossoms. Noticeable oak but it gives very nice structure and balance. Deep dark fruits. Beautiful complexity.

Magnum format. This is a big beast of a wine. Throwing a lot of sediment. Almost Bonnes Mares like to n muscularity. I recommend a minimum 5 hour decant, perhaps less for 750 format although I doubt it. I double decanted the magnum and served this over the course of a long dinner/evening. On first popping, it is hugely muscular and tannic, with very austere fruit. I almost didn’t serve it. In the first 30 minutes of decanting the tannins start to subside and the wine becomes more harmonious, with the fruit starting to present more strongly. After about 3-4 hours the wine starts to sing. Grand cru depth, weight and complexity here. Medium to full body. Earthy with dark fruit, still some drying tannins on the finish even after 5+ hours open. I plan to wait until 2025 before opening the next of these magnums. This wine needs more time to enter it’s prime drinking window but it’s very enjoyable now if thoroughly decanted.

The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Light color. Red fruit and soil. The most flesh and best balance of the 3 Clair wines. Very tannic finish. Very good and maybe better than that 20 years hence if the fruit survives. All in all, a pretty underwhelming trio of Clos St. Jacques.

All earth, iron, and soil mixed with tight dark berry. Ripe cherry background, pretty spice. Dense, dense earth. A beast. For my taste this is just up against the front of it's drinking window. Interesting in the way there is secondary sous bois and evolved earth but the fruit is basically primary. Double decanted for 3 hours

Outstanding. Ripe, rich, complex, long, structured -- a lot going on here. Some exotic Asian spices, gamey, ripe tannins, a lot of iron on the finish. This kept building and buiding. Quite ripe for burgundy, but enough acidity and tannins to support it. Powerful.

(Clair Bruno Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.Jacques) A deep, round and oakily creamy nose - quite clean though. Ripe and clean with real concentration and dimension. There’s lots of tannin but it’s balanced and long - impressive.
