End of year pairing. 1) Whistlepig Old World Rye Aged 12 Years 100% French Sauternes. 2) 2012 Dolce Winery Late Harvest. 3) 2017 Joseph Phelps Insignia. 4) 2014 Cirq Pinot Noir TreeHouse. Strawberry jam. Soft tannins. Elegant and feminine wine. Great wine, but expensive.

Good pinot. Not like Kosta wines, as this was similar but not as extracted. But very nice. Not like Rosella's or Gary's vineyard fruit, or like Martinelli or Dumol wines either. Has its own unique feel. Doesn't remind me of any other pinot I've had, but is good. Not feminine, not restrained, but it's like it was turned back a notch in concentration so you can better taste the fruit. Hard to describe but dry good and sneaks up on you. Figured good to try at 9 years. Did feel ready and don't know if this will or can improve. Liked it but really needed time to just enjoy it without food or other distractions.

super fun, crowd pleasing, big, full throttle CA pinot. Def new world in style but a great wine for those who love that style. lots of jammy cranberry fruit, medium + in body, good acidity and very silky. i enjoyed sharing this with a group of friends who loved it. while its not a lithe burgundian pinot to me in anyway, its super enjoyable for what it is.

P/double decanted and 1 hr. glass time. Just a bit of very fine bottle sediment otherwise clear. Med ruby/purple color. Usual CA Pinot flavor profile, completely integrated, balance, med body, nice long finish. Not a powerful wine in fact rather light. Nothing off. $133.

This is in a great spot right now. Decanted ~2 hours.
This glass is bursting with fruit expression - fleshy blackberries, dark cherries and black plums coat the tongue in a light layer of sweetness. The tartness of unripe strawberries and pomegranates add layers of red fruit acidity to the otherwise dark sweetness. Spice/herbs like cinnamon, star anise, mint and white pepper round out the fruits from the nose through the palate.
Aging has really smoothed out the edges since I last tried this ~5 years ago. The mellowed tannins are soft and tickle your throat while still adding a long, bittersweet finish. The barrel adds a layer of almond brittle that blend long through the aftertaste. An extended finish akin to chewing the skin of a black plum remains for minutes.
This was very enjoyable with 60 day duckfat dryaged ribeye seasoned with sea salt. The dark fruit syrup sweetens the fat, the red fruit tartness lightens the gaminess, and the spices add more dimensionality to the meat.
