  • Deep ruby in the glass. A typical nose for Penfolds nowadays - bit of varietal character, but mostly ripeness of fruit + a ton of oak. Ripe, big style of red. Nothing more than commercial really - no sense of place, no expression. Just a factory-made wine all in all.

  • Bought a few of these in 17 on recommendation of the attendant at Specs in Houston. Needless to say a very enjoyable wine at a good price. Not backing the truck up but a value wine in a overpriced market. Best drinking was day 1 & 2.

  • Décevant RQP, particulièrement pour le temps de cellier (5 ans). Dose massive de fruits mûrs et d'eucalyptus. C'est aucunement subtile, classique du terroir, mais c'est too much pour être agréable.

  • I'm just left wondering what on earth was going through their minds at Penfolds when they released this not inexpensive wine. I don't think that Penfolds stands for value (anymore) but one should expect technical competence and honest fruit, even if the blended whole risks feeling manufactured. Closed with a remarkably small and not high quality cork. Nose is pinched--just about varietally cab with a bit of eucalyptus. But the palate is also pinched--mean really--little fruit or weight, unrefined tannin and a lengthy tartaric finish. Nothing to be gained from aeration over two nights so ultimately into the vinegar pot. I'll be astonished if this ever achieves something approaching balance.
