Great old Cabernet, which has stood up to the years exceptionally well. Still has primary fruit, with an overlay of mellow leather. Performs well above the purchase price (though the current release price is hugely inflated compared to the original $15 price).
At current prices, it’s a good wine, but no bargain.

Very similar note to Red_Man; same cork experience. A bit of a dusty, compost nose initially that blew off over a few hours as the fruit came forward. Very well balanced, lots of power. Dark fruits, some tertiary characteristics, but I would say if well cellared this will go another 10 years. Great stuff.

perfect level, mid-neck, brittle cork, broke and difficult to extract, very dark colour, almost no brown even at the rim, remarkably youthful still, very fine and remarkably cool nose, complex, quite lovely in fact, palate structure classic Penfolds, power and depth on the mid-palate, gentle more restrained on the finish but still long and persistent, distinct acidity at the finish, perhaps a little more nuance and complexity on the palate could be wished but overall a very good wine, very easily drinkable, almost quaffable, bottle went at a rapid rate, perfect to drink now but will easily keep for another 5-10 years

Method: pop and pour w/ strainer to catch a lot of sediment; lightly chilled; Grassl 1855
Look: medium+ garnet
Nose: bell pepper, paprika, dried cherry, sandalwood, light bonfire smoke; gorgeous, expressive nose
Palate: bell pepper, paprika, maybe a bit of eucalyptus, dry cherry; long- finish of green bell pepper, dry cherry, leather; dry; medium body; medium tannins; medium acidity
Overall thoughts: I wasn't expecting too much from this, but it really wowed me. Excellent nose and great bell pepper and paprika notes on the nose and palate complemented/contrasted but a sufficient amount of dried cherry. I haven't had this wine before, so I'm not sure where it's been, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's at its peak. Excellent wine.

Gift from a Penfold’s Recorking event ....definitely long in the tooth...a bit past its prime...but hanging in there . Fruit has faded to raisins and leather...integrated, no flaws, and still pleasant!
