The oak doesn’t go away as it ages but just integrates better. It was undrinkable when it was young but with the appropriate bold meal now it’s quite enjoyable. It’s still not in any way subtle, but I see it’s place now.

Delicious, fuller figured style of chardy (relative to many Aussie chards these days!). Tropical and stone fruits, nutty. Acid in check, round and a bit creamy, good finish.

Colour is lemon yellow, with considerable viscosity, showing long legs in the glass. Nose is powerful with lemon, stone fruits, nuts, toasty, malty oak and light spice. The palate is similarly powerful and very complex. It is very long and inviting, and drank so well to the last drop. I have been drinking Australian chardies since the 70's (there were very few then!) and this is one of the very best I have tried, up there with Leeuwin Estate, Cullen and Giaconda. It is every bit as good as a top white Burgundy, with enough minerality and acid to balance the masses of fruit and toasty oak. I liked it so much I took all the remaining bottles off the retailer and will drink it over time to see how it develops. It is considerably better than the 2016.

white stonefruits and gentle smoke. Lemon, Talc, white flowers, fresh opened walnuts and white marshmallows. Creamy mouthfeel with nice acidity sucking it all along. The lemon hit knocks on the door through the end. Needs a bit of time but will show very well in a few years. Boom
