9th Annual Holiday Dinner and Cellar Raid (Naperville, IL): Part of wine dinner and cellar raid so did not take detailed notes. I liked this a lot. Perhaps not textbook Cab Franc, but a nice wine nonetheless. Light and balanced even for 20+ years

Tasty simple mature Cab Franc. Not obviously Cali, but definitely not Loire or Bordeaux either. Alcohol dominates the nose, but there is some cherry and strawberry fruit with a vegetal/bramble quality along with a iron/blood note. Medium body. On the palate, the fruit is a mix of ripe and underripe and mimics the nose. Finish is med-short with slightly astringent tannins. Tasty for the $15 paid, but not for the original release price.

We had this wine on 11-25-05 which is John Gilmore’s birthday. The color of the wine was a medium reddish brick. The nose was filled with scents of red cherries and plums with a hint of rose hips. The taste was pure ripe red cherry, plum and casis. The wine is approaching or at its peak so the balance was spot on. We agreed that it went perfectly with with the beef tenderloin. What a wonderful, surprise treasure for a special day.

($34) Medium color with some translucence. Exciting nose of strawberries, honey, flowers, leaves, and raspberries, along with a zesty, peppery aspect. Has an herbal funk a bit reminiscent of Pinot Noir. Medium-bodied with moderate acidity.
