Wine was showing no fruit and lots of wood. Disappointing showing. Drank next to '13 Monfortino, '13 Bartolo, and '13 Giacosa Falletto Vigna Le Rocche. Distant 4th in lineup.

The ‘13 Ravera is an incredible Barolo in the making, needing only a lot of time to become fully expressive. Today, it is an intense wine that impresses for its complex aromatics, density, and structure.
The nose was initially quite open and showed beautifully complex aromatics, although I found the wine to shut down later in the evening. When it was wide open, I found dark red and black berry fruit, blood orange, chalk, lavender, exotic dark florals, and a touch of sweet spice.
On the palate, the Ravera is concentrated and intense with brilliant acids and high tannin, but the sheer density of the wine and the very refined texture of the tannins make it drinkable today. I found the wine less complex and more clenched on the palate than the nose. I found chalky red and black berry fruit, lavender, and sweet spices, with some blood orange tones and minerality joining towards the finish with a burst of acidity, sweetness, and minerality lingering.

Also with a touch of a port like smell to the nose. Full and round with an intense grip on day five.

On day two. Dark fruited cherry aromatics. Palate still a bit stern with rugged fury tannins.
