Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • I finally decided to drink this bottle of a vintage dating back to my college days. It represented the last of a case which I purchased through Wine of the Month Club and had been on my "wine shelf" for nearly 20 years. It was a good decision.

This 1983 cabernet was much more in the style of the Bordeaux, the opposite of a fruit bomb. Deep purple. Full bodied. Unfiltered. Rustic. Earthy. Lots of tannin on opening. Flavors of cassis, just enough oak, some spice, hints of plum. After a couple of hours, the various tannins and dark fruit flavors established a very satisfying balance.
