Dumien Serrette Cornas Patou Vertical (Ariana 2, Kilburn, London): Second bottle in a fortnight, this one was decanted for around 3 hours and showed better than the first one. There is lovely citrus twist to the palate with layers of red fruit too. Palate rich, long and although young, beguiling.

Northern Rhone WIMPS (La Trompette, Chiswick): This has a wild, slightly feral nose, red fruit at the core but also pickled vegetables, white pepper. Better on the palate, but still a touch gamey and peppery. Not sure about this.

Northern Rhone WIMPS #163 6th April 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): This is an enigma. First and persisting impressions on the nose are of dill pickle vinegar and a lime starburst sweetness. There are more savoury notes of bresaola and green olive too. Pour at the end of the lunch has settled down a little - have another lined up for a dinner in a couple of weeks will be interesting to compare that bottle.

My second bottle of this cuvee from 2015. A bit more tannic than the bottle I opened last year though no regrets to open another. In my opinion, this is a highly undervalued Cornas producer. Delicious syrah dark fruit...not the rusticity that you usually find in the region.

This 2015 Cornas was not supposed to be ready for prime time but it was delicious. None of the rustic tendencies characteristic of Cornas. This was surprisingly open with a big nose of raspberries and a long finish. Tasted more like Hermitage than Cornas. This was my first 2015 and I’m very excited to see how others fare.
