Showing superbly tonight. One of the best Petit Sirahs I have ever had and a complete surprise as the best Royal Punishers of the several vintages I have had - by a mile. Remarkably dark in color. The nose has significant alcohol then juicy black cherries and camphor. It improves steadily for at least two hours after the first glass has been poured. Initially almost grape-juice-like, with time it shakes that off and the still massive tannins give way to an opulent, long explosion of black fruits with coffee in the mid-palate and figs at the finish. Let a swallow roll around in your mouth for 15 seconds for an intense blast of cassis. A great Petite Sirah and at its peak in my opinion.

Mixed Wines Offline (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Purple color. Followed 1 glass over 90 minutes. This had a nose full of spices, blackberry, blackberry liqueur, oak. The palate is huge, dense and chewy, black fruits, firm tannins, oak, very spicy, hot. I had a hard time with this wine. Others found it much better, but I could not get past the sense of chewing on wood chips bathed in alcohol.

Surprisingly light nose but a deep brooding dark fruit taste. Oak, cedar, vanilla. Tannins are there but tempered. Heavy duty wine, strong flavors. Very good.

Barnett vs. Star Lane Merlot Challenge with mixed bag of other wines (Kevin's House (Minneapolis)): Second best wine of the night and showing well. Earth, dark fruits, coffee and spices. Prunes on the finish and medium. Complex wine and one of the best examples of Petite Sirah from Cali. Drink now. Decanted about 1.5 hours.

US & Australia Syrah/Shiraz (Two Biale Petite Sirah's) (Minneapolis (Sara's House)): Really nice wine and finished in third place tonight. Blueberries, spice, blackberries, coffee and earth. The palate shows concentration and the tannins have mellowed out. Medium finish and a really balanced wine. Well done!
