Restaurant pop and pour. 15 to 20 years ago we bought many of Ben's wines as we both liked his style, and him personally. However as the time required for his wines to really come of age became evident, we just stop buying them.
It's literally been decades since I had one of his wines with only eight years age (still have 02-05 Amon Ra) and I found this refreshingly approachable. Nothing was over-the-top for the varietal. Will have to seek some out to enjoy when I can really pay attention to the wine, as tonite was really a working dinner.

Color is medium purple with lots of garnet notes. The nose is intense with lots of ripe dark fruits and licorice. On the palate ripe dark cherries, dark plum, lots of licorice, dark olives and some minty notes. Full bodied with a medium acidity. Tannins are grippy. Medium (+) complexity. The alcohol (15%) is a little too dominant. All in all it feels a little overdone, there’s just too much ripe fruit. Nice medium (+) long finish. It’s ok for a second wine but I definitely prefer the Amon-Ra from Ben Glaetzer, it shows more complexity and balance. I don’t think this will improve with more age, maybe it will soften out a bit, but I can’t see it getting more complex or balanced. Drink now until 2030. (IG)

Excelllent Barossa expression of Shiraz Cabernet.
Bold fruit, great texture and long finish.
So glad we have more.

Im Stil eines sehr guten Napa Valley, viel Frucht, aber ohne die allerletzte Präzision und Komplexität
