This is an odd one. Bitter and thin expression of nebiolo with a sour finish. Some tannins left but not sure this will improve. Drank without food but might be better with bbq?

Pop and pour, first of 4 btls I purchased after the tasting. few years ago. Yum. On the nose: pure nebbiolo rose goodness, with a side of rosewater, blood orange. and soft green herbs. Still very primary, and a hint of heat, but lovely early-drinking barbaresco. On the palate: bitter medicinal herbs, rose water and blood orange with the latter dominant on the finish. Lovely finish with elegant, but intense tannin and bitter herbs..almost like light averna on the finish. Very good, but will certainly improve with time.

Wine made by the b&b/winery we're staying at near Alba. Actually really nice Barbaresco with fruity notes, earthy, leathery. Some spicyness and pepper. Not too stringent, probably because of the lesser 2014 vintage which is already at the point of being really drinkable.

This is ridiculously light and watered down on the palate. No real structure and backbone. Tasted over 3 hours of decanting. Not anywhere close to the Produttori del Barbaresco line of barbaresco across a number of recent vintages.

(Paitin Barbaresco Sori Paitin) Hello friends. The Eliminator is back! v18.0 contains a set of nine wines, and they run the gamut in price, origin, and style. Based on the name of the final American Gladiators challenge (see link for an excellent example of the original Eliminator, and also for an epic blond ‘80s mullet), this is where we eliminate extra bottles that have accumulated for one reason or another (some reasons purposeful; others accidental/stupid/I-don’t-wanna-talk-about-it). A reminder: we handle this offer a little differently than most. These will be first-come first-served, and the upper order limits will be the number of extra bottles in the warehouse. So, if we have 15 bottles left, and you want all 15, and you’re the first to jump in, they’re yours. This gives slight advantage to longer-term list members. Our offers are throttled, and it takes about an hour to send offers to the entire list. So the old-heads get a bit of a head-start (much like the Gladiators Eliminator, but with fewer tassels), but list newbies will be nipping at their heels! (Paitin Barbaresco Sori Paitin) Hello friends. Today we have the latest in our year-ending Instant Gratification series of offers. These all contain wines that are in the warehouse and ready for immediate pickup post-allocation (allocations will take place tomorrow at 10am). We have just one more pickup weekend in 2018 (Dec 20-22), then our usual two-week holiday closure. Our first open pickup weekend in 2019 will be Jan 10-12. Last month we offered two wines from famed “Barolo Boy” Domenico Clerico and they sold out immediately. It was a good reminder of just how attractive Piemontese Nebbiolo is this time of year. So, when we tasted today’s wines, it was an easy decision. We bought out the remaining stock of both with this Instant Gratification series in mind. Both parcels are borderline size-wise (the Vajra especially). We’ll set upper order limits at 6 Paitin/3 Vajra, but actual allocations are likely to be more like 2-3 Paitin and 1-2 Vajra.
