  • Mulberry, black cherry, cigar wrapper. Still drinking young at 9 years old, nicely wound wine

  • A substantial wine. The oak pokes out a bit but but should be quite nice in a few years.

  • From a 1.5 format. Deep, dark reddish-purple in color with no signs of aging. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, anise, pepper, some herbal notes, spices, cocoa & a hint of cedar/vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & mulberries with herbs, spices & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting and extended airing and even at 8 years of age, it will continue to develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score.

  • Well made wine but not my style. Dark fruit, plums, little on nose, slightly sour on finish. A little oak, tannins resolved but no tertiary flavors.

Day 2: A Tale of Two Sippies. Much improved. Rounder smooth dark and brooding. Some cherry kirsch and longer finish/ really opened up! I wish more notes tracked evolution over days…

  • Wow, this is very good. Silky smooth. Anise and elderberry, mid palate cracked pepper. The tannic structure is still present but not at all astringent and no bitter after taste.

Definitely ready to drink today (we drank it straight out of the bottle with a vinituri) or continue to cellar as the flavors continue to meld. So yummy.

(Woodward Canyon Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon) Hello friends. Woodward Canyon continues to be model of consistency and excellence for Washington’s burgeoning wine scene. Rick Small and his family have been producing wine for nearly 40 years. The second winery in Walla Walla, Woodward Canyon was instrumental in developing the appellation. This is a winery ingrained in the history of Washington wine—and one that does its part in producing wines that truly represent the region. See key for # of bottles currently available.
