WineLake I (Coniston): A powerful, rich marmaladey nose. Quite a simple botrytised riesling in what seems to me quite a commercial style. No real depth. Good.

Impromptu BYO Dinner (Le Zie, Chelsea, New York, NY): Served alongside the cheese plate, its tropical fruit flavors showed better without a mouthful of gorgonzola. (Go figure.) However, the syrupy texture and ripe honeydew flowed nicely with the softer moo-based cheeses. An appropriate ending to a meal full of rich flavors.

Australian wine dinner with family (Grandparents house): Decanted for approximately two hours. Orange / brown core giving way to a clear rim. An ‘interesting’ nose which Chris described as “wet cardboard box filled with marmalade”, with high acidity, rich and pronounced flavours of peaches and apples and a lingering finish. Not my style but everyone else enjoyed this.

Not particularly classy and probably on the way downhill, but pleasant nonetheless
