  • From Art's cellar. One-hour decant through a screened funnel. Cork was steeped through and the bottom fifth broke off while pulling it. Cork did not crumble however. During decant, wine was moderately aromatic: black fruits and damp forest floor. Wine was clear, darker bowl lightening to rim, no amber or bricking. No sediment to speak of. In the glass, blackberries with stems, blueberries and cigar box aromas of cedar and tobacco. In the mouth, tannins were all resolved; wine was smooth. Deep black fruits, earth and coffee with a fairly long finish showing cedar. Wine was wonderful given its age and cost $12.99 in 1991. Wow!

  • Part of 31 vintage vertical of Cissac. Not showing as well as the 1985 on the night. The next day mature colour, more so than 82 or 85 but smooth and fruity no dryness.

  • Interesting, with tertiary notes just starting to come through. Believe it or not, there was some fruit that began to sneak out after the wine was open and in a decanter for about an hour and a half. The fruit involved includes dusty black cherries carried over a mushroom, forest floor, and pencil lead background. The finish is 15 seconds or so. Though it's not running full steam there are no major flaws I've picked up.

Interesting bottle, and it's unclear what it will do now (not much acid left, but there are still some dusty tannins lingering). Drinking now can provide pleasure, though, so if you have a bottle, go for it!
