  • Initially very muted on the nose, but with a few hours’ air it opens to become quite approachable; leather, ground coffee, spice; still sturdy and well-structured, with decent lift; no great concentration or length, but remains pleasant enough albeit it needs drinking soon.

  • Perfect cellar storage on this one. First whiffs offered dirty diaper notes and mature earth/leather. Not much sediment, if any... the sign of a filtered wine I suppose. Fruit has dried up quite a bit. Still very enjoyable, but don't wait.

  • Lamb off! (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Aromas of farmyard, earth, sweet spice, leather, blackcurrant under brambles and slight plums and a little forest floor. Juicy, a little aniseed joins the brambly fruit, savoury liquorice, tannins are tight and grainy but supportive rather than dominant. Nice.

  • Upon opening in the morning: Light to medium garnet with a touch of brick hue, clear meniscus. Light and gentle aromatics of cassis and leather. Light to medium bodied, elegant, fine grip on the midpalate. Leather and savoury.

Later: a classic left bank Bordeaux at maturity. Gentle nose of cedar and cassis. Elegant entry with sweet cassis notes, and just so well balanced between its fruit notes, fine acid draw, surprising grippy tannins, and good sustain. It isn't complex per se, to the extent that there are many different aromatics etc, however this was a perfect Cru Bourgeois, balanced, digestible, and an excellent partner to many foods. Think this is at its peak now.

    Serving notes and bottle condition:
Opened in the morning, with 30ml drawn off for preliminary assessment, allowed to slow-ox for 9 hours, decanted off the sediment 10 minutes before serving.

Long cork that had held up reasonably well, soaked 1/3 of the way up. Fill level base of neck. Pristine label - bottles appears to have been well cellared.
