94-96: Bevan blows the doors off with this beautiful wine. It's fruit driven, exuberant, delicious, blackberry pie in a glass. It nods to the Old World, but it's proudly Californian. Fruit goes on and on - tannins are thick, but it's all from the skins. If you want secondary notes, look elsewhere or hold for another 7-8 years. Outstanding. I'm not sure what else I could ask from this wine.

To the nose, black fruit (black cherry, blackberry) and slight pepper, plus slight red meat, oak and moss which dissipate as it opens up. On the palate, fruit forward (leaning more towards CSM than Rhone) with black cherry, blackberry and black raspberry more than red raspberry and red cherry; slight tartness and cranberry disappear as opens up. Medium-full mouthfeel with medium length. Tannins in silky strings providing adequate backbone presently. Pepper (white more than black) with very slight green pepper as the vegetal now. Leather more than oak. Very good to drink now, and excellent QPR. Had with "gourmet" burgers (peri peri ailoi, etc.) and matched well.

Cherry Garcia ice cream, coconut milk, smoldering sawdust, and tar with bright acidity that keeps it balanced and fresh.

Nice, meaty syrah. Quite savory, with notes of tar, blackberry, grilled meat and cracked pepper. Drink now - 2025.
