  • A beautiful bottle. Stunning red fruits and sweet oak with a bit of iron and new leather with forest floor. Fun and enjoyable. Rather easy drinking and a great last wine of the eve.

  • Very ripe fruit and drying tannins, lacking some charm and interest. Surprising as this Chateau has been firing on all cylinders recently, albeit this is obviously a second wine. Possibly a dodgy bottle, maybe just too early.

  • Dinner at L&L last night. My first tasting from Château Canon since their 07 at the Château in 2010. Was decanted for 1.5 hours prior to tasting.

Nose of gorgeous strawberries hits you immediately. Ripe red fruit of delicacy. With some more time, it’s terroir arrived with some leather and mild meat juices. Absolutely loved this nose. My impression at this point was Canon has transformed from a decade ago into highend, top quality and gunning for the ‘A’ upgrade in 2032.

The palette was still young, but greeted us with more ripe yet balanced fruit. Over the course of the night, the palette rounded out and was lovely about 3 hours later. The tannins has soften as well. Beat my expectations. Still so much ahead but at this point makes me excited to taste the many great future vintages from Château Canon. This is a second wine but rather made from within a specific plot. 2026-2030. Will for sure hit the 94 range in a couple of years.

  • An exploration of Bordeaux - 2016 vintage (Le Pont, Milsons Point): Plummy, ripe, concentrated, savoury notes; slightly meaty, plenty of spice, some derived from alcohol, handles it's plentiful oak well. Juicy, ripe plummy fruit then lashings of chalky and woody drying tannins that prove tight and close down the palate leaving a whisper of ripe plummy fruit, vanilla and a fair lick of alcohol. Not for me.

  • 1st time drinking the 2nd label of Canon. Readily approachable. A short 30 mins of airing in the glass opened it up to wonderful perfume; dark fruit laced with nuances of cassis, cherry blossom & floral violet notes. Palate is velvety and integrated showing depth & texture. The finish mixes well with the oak hints of cacao nibs. Lovely graphite, saline minerality with some savory notes at the edge as well. Great tensile w a long finish. Yums!

18/04/23 - drank with my Riedel tumbler while on the road in SGP
